We're back!

We are back and had a great time. I will post some pics and details of the trip to Kansas soon, but for now, just know we are back safe and sound. Oh and with a greater appreciation for Kansas and Settlers! :)

Scavenger Hunt- I NEED YOUR HELP!

We are headed to Kansas this week! Jealous? Well you should be, because what awaits us is a 12 hour car ride through the beautiful Mid West ending in Hutchinson (aka "Hutch") Kansas. But best of all is that Bethany and Dan are there! We can't wait to see you guys!

But, as I said it's a LOOOONNNGG drive and I am eager to find ways to pass the time. This is where this beautiful picture of my dear friend Franny comes in. Doesn't she look so cute in our "trash or treasure" chair? This photo was from a scavenger hunt we did for our photography class a few weeks ago. We had a list of 10 things that we had to go out and find in the neighborhood around the church, one being: "trash or treasure". There were other simple things like a photo of an animal, the sun, a flower, etc. So I thought it'd be fun to compile a photo scavenger hunt for our road trip. We are going to get a list together tomorrow night and then have it in the car and try and see how many we can get before we reach our destination. This will help document our road trip as well as give us something fun to do. Well, it will help give ME something fun to do and help me continue to learn how to take good photos. But here's the deal we need a mix of random things to add to our list. This is where YOU come in!

Leave a comment here with what you want us to add to our list. Now, let's keep it G-rated and not TOO off the wall. For example, here were some things from our class list:

red, yellow, and blue together
evidence of love
trash or treasure

Think of things along those lines, but feel free to branch out too. Like an all black cat with three legs. Hey, you never know! It's things like the red, yellow, and blue together that once you know you have to find it you see it everywhere! I am still noticing it three weeks later!

So, comment away! But you only have until tomorrow afternoon....we gotta get the list together ASAP before we leave.

Thanks!

Yet another...

Here is another movie I really want to see. More of a documentary type for this one and it looks like it's only coming out in NYC and LA, but I'm sure will be available on DVD at some point. I hope so! The guy speaking in the trailer is Michael Pollan, the author of In Defense of Food (a really great book!). Looks interesting!

Speaking of food, the Farmer's Market opens tomorrow and I will be there bright and early. I think they are having an indoor garage sale too. Score!

Hope y'all have a great weekend!

Project

I am thinking about painting our kitchen table as my early summer project once all this rain goes away. What do you think?

Here is our table (although our kitchen doesn't quite look the same, new curtains, no more shelf, plant stand instead, etc.)

Here is what I would paint it. Black....most likely.

What are your thoughts?

Finished!

I finished the 5K without walking. I'll admit I am totally not in super shape, not a runner, am slow, and it was humid....so all of this made me want to quit at one point, but I didn't (<--click). I pressed on, even ran up the BIG hill in the back of the zoo and finished without stopping! Woo hoo! And yesterday for my training for the POTENTIAL 10K I'm going to run, I had to run 4 miles and I did that too! I did stop at one point to take a 30 second breather and take off my jacket....but other than that, I pressed on. This is weird, I like running. Who would have thought?!

(click the picture for more pics)

I am still going to give the 10K training another week and see how I feel about registering for the race. I really need to get new tennis shoes too. Like soon!

We are still trying to eat healthy and I am still enjoying making a lot of things from scratch and at home. I've realized the importance of fueling my body with lots of water and good food to be able to continue to work out at the pace I have been. No trip to Creation Gardens this week, but the Farmers Market opens next week, so life will be good and summer will officially be here, in my book anyway!

In other news, here are some yummy things I plan to make this week:

Monday
Something grab and go
(Community Group)

Tuesday
Green Chicken w/
Rice, Peas, & Almonds

Wednesday
LOST Season Finale party
(Spicy Shredded Pork- made it yesterday-seriously delicious!)

Thursday
Breakfast for dinner!

Friday
Leftovers/Misc.

Other
**I made zuchini bread yesterday except used 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce in place of the oil, and only about 1 1/2 cups of sugar. It was still moist and very good!

**I plan to make some of these muffins towards the end of the week/weekend

Running

I have a love-hate relationship with running. I love it, I think about it a lot, but sometimes I hate it and it makes my knees hurt. Darn it! Well, I am running my first 5K this Saturday. I actually haven't thought about it too much, maybe because...well I don't know why. I'll probably be nervous on Friday just because it's my first race. I am not running for speed though, let's be clear on that! My goal is to finish it and not stop running. Even with the awful hills that are at the ZOO (we run through the zoo!)....no stopping! And then after another week of training, we'll see about registering for the 10K. Yikes, that's scary!

The training is going ok. I've been a slacker on some of the "fill in" stuff between runs (like weight lifting). I mean I had a long run this past weekend that was easier than I thought....keep in mind here I am NOT a runner, so it was intimidating for me. But I did it and it kind of helped me think more seriously about actually running the 10K. I'll give the training another week or so and then we'll see. I am actually headed to the gym today to do some cross-training and probably to the store this weekend to get some new tennis shoes. Mine are old, falling apart, and have no arch support. This will help my knees too.

Ok, this is too long of a post about running. But I really do love it...although sometimes I hate it. Oh goodness! :)

I think I might

I think I might want to see this movie.

It could be kind of cool.

Based on two true stories.

Fun!
